Clinical Study of Stable Thoracolumbar Vertebral Fractures



Abstract
In recent years the rate of the spine fracture tends to be on the increase year the rate of the spine fracture tends to be on the increase year by year as the rate osteoporosis patients and traffic accidents are increased.
Twenty cases of thoraco lumbar Vertebral fracture were studied from Octobar, 1990 to May, 1992 in our study.
The stable injuries of the spine were treated by Nicoll methode(such as bedrest, early ambulation), acupuncture, Herb-Med, Physical therapy and Bohler exersice.
1. Out of the 20 patient, there were 15 female and 5 male cases. The ratio between female and male was 3 : 1.
2. The most Common site of the lesion is between T12 and L2 vertebrae(67.0% ) and the simple anterior wedge fracture(74.0%) was most common.
3. The majority(90.0%) of the thoracolumbar spine fractures was found in the age group of 60 to 70 years.
4. 70.0% of the cases occurred at home accidentally.
The outcomm of treatment were Excellent result in 30.0%, and Good in 60.0%, Fair in 5. 0% and Poor in 5.0%. Accondingly satisfactory result was achieved in 90.0% of the patients.
It is suggested that they gave a more functional result than rigidly immobilized group
